FAQ

What you need to know

Book now

I’m not very fit, can I still take part?

Of course! Our courses are generally 50% theory and 50% physical movements, so we do require for you to be in reasonable physical condition to be able to undertake the basic activity and movements. If you have any physical injuries or issues, please raise these in your medical form and your instructor will advise on the best way for you to take part

Do I need any previous training or qualifications?

No, you don’t need any previous experience to join one of our courses! Also no qualifications are required to take part in our courses, however in order for us to be able to teach individuals how to undertake Self Defence/ Breakaway & Disengagement in a safe and competent way, individuals need to have the capacity to read and write in English.

Do we need to fill out a medical form?

Yes. Before taking part in a Blossom course, it’s required for you to complete a medical questionnaire. We ask that you include all injuries, past and present, as well as including any medication currently prescribed and / or being taken. Your instructor will decide if you are okay to take part, and reserve the right to exclude any individual whom the staff have reason to believe may be unsuitable for training, for Health & Safety and Welfare reasons.

The medical form can be viewed at the download section below.

What shall I wear?

We recommend that participants wear suitable training kit for the full duration of the course e.g. gym and yoga clothes plus pumps or trainers. Your clothes should be comfortable and allow movement.

Examples of inappropriate clothing would include: any form of open-toed or slip-on shoes or sandals, footwear with heels, skirts / dresses, shorts, low-cut tops, etc.

It is advised that long hair is tied back during the training for Health & Safety reasons.

We also ask that all jewellery is removed prior to any training commencing for Health & Safety reasons. Where an item of jewellery cannot be removed (i.e. wedding rings) it may be required to be covered dependent on its construction and style.

When shall I arrive?

We ask that you arrive to the location 15 minutes before the start of the class. This allows us to get you set up for training and for you to fill in the Medical Form. You can view our Day at a Glance in the downloads below to see the training timeline.

Can I take photos and videos?

For Safeguarding reasons, videoing and the taking of pictures is not permitted without the express written permission of Blossom Training & Development. We ask that all phones are put away during the course.

Alcohol & Drugs

No alcohol is to be consumed during training. Any individual who breaches this condition will be removed from the course. In addition, any person who has (or has had in the recent past) had an alcohol dependency must bring this to the attention of the course tutors prior to the course commencing. Failure to do so may result in the individual being removed from the course.

Blossom Training & Development operates a drug-free training culture. Therefore, any individual who is caught taking illegal on un-prescribed drugs to artificially enhance their performance, or found to be in possession of such items, will be removed from the course and if necessary, reported to the Police. In addition, any person who has (or has had in the recent past) a drug dependency (including recovering drug abusers) must bring this to the attention of the course tutors prior to the course commencing. Failure to do so may result in the individual being removed from the course.
